100 Years of History

St. Patrick Parish has been glorifying God in Seneca, IL since 1868. In 1924, through the generosity and sacrifices of the parishioners, the current church was dedicated. A holy place of worship, beauty, and community, the church has been a staple of Seneca for 100 years.

The Beginning

Construction begins on St. Patrick church and is completed in 1924, costing $150,000, more than $27,000,000 today.

100 years ago, the people of Seneca decided they wanted a church of great beauty to honor God.

Marble altar, statuary, and panels added to the sanctuary in the 1950’s.

Building on what came before, marble was added to the sanctuary. An exquisite crucifix, Mary, and St. Joseph statue were also installed.

A Place of Worship

The Lord has been present and worshiped at Masses, weddings, funerals, and adoration. Pictured is the First Holy Communion class of 1953.

A Place of Fellowship

For more than a century, God’s people have been gathering, celebrating, and enjoying being together. Pictured is a parish carnival in 1954.

A Place of Devotion

The love for God, His Church, and the saints has grown in the hearts of generations of parishioners. Pictured is the 1959 May crowning of our Blessed Mother.
